Many visitors get energy, rejuvenation and inspiration from
Sedonas vortex
pointsswirling forces that are said to give one a sense of well-being and a
special spiritual bond to the area. But others get their fulfillment and inner
peace from dining. Fortunately, the restaurants here are as adept at satisfying
your appetite as the Red Rocks are at satiating your soul and psyche.
From the time you awaken, you're privy to a sensational spectrum of dining
options. After all, how could a place with a landmark called Coffee Pot Rock not
be known for its breakfasts?
In the mood for buttery brioche and flaky croissants? The Sedona
Swiss Restaurant and Cafe will start your day with melt-in-your-mouth
European pastries and specialty coffees. You'll be so enamored with their baked
goods that you'll want to return later in the day for their authentic Swiss
specialties. Add an early "¡olé!" to your day with a Sonoran
breakfast burrito of eggs and Mexican chorizo at Marias
Restaurant and Cantina. Can't wait for the stores to open? Enjoy an omelet
or waffles at the Prime Outlets Marketplace
Cafe and you'll be the first one in the door of Oneida or Dansk (you are
shopping for kitchen and table wares, aren't you?). And the hungry-man-sized
breakfasts at the Coffee Pot Restaurant will stoke even the sturdiest morning
appetites.
While browsing through the shops and galleries in Uptown Sedona, there are
plenty of great places to take a break at lunch. Oaxaca
Restaurante & Cantina provides the perfect perch to watch the world go
by on Sedonas main street. Sit on the second floor patio, sip an iced tea or
house-special Margarita. Their Mexican menu has just the right kick to energize
you for your afternoons activities. Rosebuds,
diagonally across the street in the Sinagua Plaza, is a Sedona classic. Its
all-American menu of comfort foods and casual cuisine come with an awe-inspiring
panoramic view on the side.
Since hiking, biking and sightseeing are so much a part of the Sedona
experience, picnic fare and trail foods are a priority. The areas delis,
sandwich shops and bakeries more than meet the challenge. Stop at Sedona
Memories, just off the "main drag" in Uptown for the often-voted
best sandwiches in town. WenDelis
and Jumpin'
Jacks, also in the center of the city, provide portable and very palatable
choices. On the West Side, Rinzais
Market specializes organic produce, natural foods and baked goods that are
as nutritious and they are delicious. And, in Oak Creek Canyon, pick up a picnic
or snack on your way to Slide
Rock State Park at Garlands
Indian Gardens, a market and gift shop in the historic 1870s Thompson
homestead. Be sure to try their organic apple cider, too!
The west side of Sedona is noted for its friendly neighborhood cafés and
affordable meals. For dining thats quite literally "out of this
world," theres the Red
Planet Diner, replete with eight-foot aliens and their own space ship. Order
a Jupiter Juice while you wait for your Gemini Double Cheeseburger or EggPlanet
Parmigiana to be served. In contrast, the nearby, Spices
Restaurant offers a more "Earth-y" atmosphere and comforting,
casual cuisine with an Italian accent. Judis
Restaurant and its sibling, Keisers
West, are exactly the kind of home-spun, family-run restaurants that you'd
hope to find on any trip. Judis desserts are legendary (and served at both
restaurants), so be sure you leave room to give them a try. Call it High Desert
cuisine, or call it refined ranch food, but you're sure to enjoy a
Southwestern-style meal at the Cowboy
Club?yee hah!
The term "harmonic convergence" takes on a whole new meaning when it
comes to Sedona dining. Cuisines from all over the globe are tastily represented
here. Both Sasaki
and Takashi
will pacify your yen for superb Japanese cuisine in sublimely serene
surroundings. Thai
Spices serves up nutrition-packed, chile-charged plates meant to nourish
both your health and happiness. New York-style Italian dishes are the specialty
at Pietros,
and Dahl
and DiLucas premium handmade pastas are a local favorite. Nobody does Big
Apple pizzas like Joey
Bistro?hey, they don't call their manager "Brooklyn Paulie" for
nothing! Get into the spirit of España at Casa
Rincon, with its inventive tapas offerings and live Flamenco shows. If its
seafood you fancy, set sail for Shugrues
Hillside Grill, just south of the "Y" on State Route 179. They're
regularly voted the areas finest seafood restaurant.
Those fond of French fare (and who isn't?) will discover some of the Southwests
best in this classic cuisine here in Sedona. Renes
at Tlaquepaque
art and craft village is the towns hands-down favorite special occasion
restaurant. Its elegant setting and impressive artwork is surpassed only by its
exquisite interpretations of French cuisine. From crêpes to cassoulet, you're
bound to swoon.
For the ultimate al fresco atmosphere, no Sedona dining destination surpasses
the L'Auberge
Restaurant and its outdoor terrace. You'll be lulled by the flow of Oak
Creek and pampered with ultra-accommodating service as you partake of their
award-winning wines and an exquisitely prepared and presented six-course prix
fixe meal. Trés magnifique! Heartline
Cafe, regularly voted Sedonas most romantic restaurant, has a
gallic-influenced, seductive menu and a country inn dining room that make it
virtually impossible to say "Non"?whether its to one of their fabulous
desserts or a marriage proposal.
Diners with transportation and a culinary sense of adventure will also find it
worth the trip to Junipine
Cafe in picturesque Oak Creek Canyon for fresh-from-the-stream trout in a
pretty pine-paneled dining room. Or chow down on an authentic chuckwagon-style
spread, with live entertainment, at Cottonwoods Blazin'
M Ranch.
Maybe its the cosmic forces in action, but at night, Sedona comes alive with its
own special energy. Canyon
Breeze is a prime example. Whether you're toasting a Sedona sunset on the
deck, or grazing and star-gazing through the skylight in the lounge, you're sure
to pick up on the electricity that permeates this place. Those in pursuit of a
more kinetic energy will find stimulation in the click-clack of billiard balls
at Steaks
and Sticks, Los Abrigados' posh, yet playful "dining and
diversions" venue.
At Poco
Diablo Resort, sports enthusiasts can keep up to date on scores and more at
the casually upscale Jerseys
Bar & Grill. Or get a taste of Sedona wildlife (as their slogan states)
at West Sedonas Laughing
Coyote. Three nights a week they feature "Howling Hour," a local
version of Happy Hour, from 10pm until "last call." On weekends,
they're the home of Stoneys Famous Coyote Cookout, with a full barbeque dinner
for under 10 bucks.
A steaming espresso and a fresh-from-the-oven pastry as the sun rises on another
perfect day...a Buffalo burger savored on an Uptown patio while the noonday
pedestrians pass by...the lip-puckering lime and salty sting of a well-made
Margarita at a classic cowboy bar...an unforgettable epicurian experience at a
fine resort, where the food is world-class and the service unsurpassed?aaah, the
culinary memories of your visit to Sedona. Oh, yes, do allow yourself some time
to gaze at the magnificent Red Rocks, too.
